About Predefined blocks

predefinedBlocks replaces the Content field with a block editor: heading, text and images, table, list, video, wrapper/accordion and chunk/snippet/HTML. Developers restyle each block with a Fenom template in the theme; the rendered HTML is saved into content, so search and teasers keep working.

Requires pdoTools 3. Not for templates that use ContentBlocks.

All blocks have been fully tested and are functional. We still have some features to add before it is pushed to the beta release.

Instructions

  • Install pdoTools 3 first (required, block templates use Fenom).
  • Install predefinedBlocks and tick the templates that should use the block editor in the install form.
  • Choose the front-end styles: Plugin CSS (works without Bootstrap) or Bootstrap (your theme already loads Bootstrap 5.3).
  • Open a page with that template, click Add block and save.
  • To add your own sections, create custom block types: see Custom blocks in the documentation.

    New in 0.2.0-beta

    Beta release.

    • Custom block: developers add section types as Fenom templates (<name>.tpl) with the fields listed in the template header; editors choose the type in the block and fill in the fields. Types are read from the template's folder (property pb.custom_path) and from a general folder (setting predefinedblocks.custom_path).
    • Two example custom block types included: Call to action and Pricing package.
    • Until a type is chosen, the block shows the folders it reads, with a warning when there are no types.
    • New field types textarea and link (page ID or URL); field width (1-12) and grouping in the editor.
    • Bootstrap is now optional: the plugin adds its own blocks.css and blocks.js (accordion) to pages with blocks. Choose Plugin CSS or Bootstrap in the install form; settings predefinedblocks.frontend_css / frontend_js.
