Thumb3x: Modern Image Processing for MODX 3

Thumb3x is a powerful and flexible image processing component built exclusively for MODX 3.

This component was written to fill a gap in the MODX 3 ecosystem, which lacks modern and reliable tools for working with images. Most solutions that work on MODX 3 have not been updated in over 10 years.

Key Features

Powered by the high-performance Glide 3.0.1 library, providing on-the-fly image generation with advanced caching. Supports modern image formats.

Media Source support allows working with images from any location. All key parameters (processing driver, permissions) are available as system settings.

Supports not only cropping and resizing, but also applying filters, effects, and watermarks via simple snippet parameters.

The component keeps a record of all generated files in the database, providing a basis for analytics and allowing for cache management through a convenient grid in the manager.

• Clearing the cache checks the thumb3x.cache_path folder first and refuses unsafe paths; an empty value now means the default folder
• If a cached file is missing, the image is generated again instead of returning a broken link
• Clearing the cache and removing records now require the empty_cache permission
• Development-only resolver removed from the package
• The last-access date is written at most once a day instead of on every image view
• Correct thumbnail URLs on sites installed in a subfolder
• Clearing the cache of a single media source now deletes its files; removing records checks all of them first
• Manager table output is escaped; missing lexicon entries added; clearer error log messages; empty or invalid permission settings fall back to 0644/0755
• No more duplicate-entry errors in the error log when the same new image is requested by several visitors at once
• Fixed update failing with "fread(): Argument #2 ($length) must be greater than 0" on servers where MODX uses PclZip

• New thumb3x.cache_path_mode setting - cache path scheme: source (default, behaviour unchanged), hashed, flat
• Thumb3xHandler.php - in hashed/flat mode the source path never appears in the cache URL, file name = hash column
• Remove.php - removing a record now cleans emptied folders up the tree to the cache root
