About MODX MCP

MODX3MCP connects AI agents to MODX Revolution 3.x through 192 operations. Manage resources, elements, settings and ClientConfig; inspect access policies and resource groups. Includes dependency analysis, change previews, safety backups, audit hooks and stale-write protection using site revisions. Requires a local Node.js 18+ MCP client.

Instructions

  • Install or upgrade modx3mcp-1.2.1-pl.transport.zip through MODX Package Management. This package is for MODX Revolution 3.x. Existing modxmcp settings and API tokens are preserved during upgrades.
  • Obtain the API token from the component settings.
  • Configure your MCP-compatible client to run npx with arguments -y and github:rumata-estor/modx3-mcp#v1.2.0. Node.js 18 or newer is required. When upgrading, update the client release tag to v1.2.0 and restart the MCP client.
  • Set MODX_MCP_SITE_URL to https://your-site.example/assets/components/modxmcp/api.php and MODX_MCP_TOKEN to your API token.
  • Start with read-only operations and enable the capability groups required for your workflow.

    On new installations, the component is disabled by default. Enable it in the component settings when you are ready to use it.

    • Fixed security vulnerabilities in MCP system settings and static file handling.
    • Added protection against path traversal, including symbolic link escapes.
    • Improved API token protection and HTTPS security.
    • Fixed unbounded database queries caused by limit=0.
    • The component is now disabled by default on new installations.
    • Existing settings and API tokens are preserved during upgrades.
    • Tested on MODX Revolution 3.2.4-pl.
